The root cause of Jamaica’s problems is in our parliament. Talk all we want, inquire until thy kingdom come. Until, the majority of Jamaicans come to realize, what good governance is all about, there will be no change, for the better! Jamaica is governed in the interest of the PNP or the JLP – not the people. The change those of us in the know, are seeking, will only come when our MP’s truly represents the electorate – Government of the people for the people – the bed rock of democracy. Good governance first – inquires will enforce it!

A very good article. Even a badly done report or enquiry can be useful in helping us to understand the magnitude of the problem facing us vis-à-vis human rights and police citizens relationship.

He is a great athlete but not a competitive one. If we were to wait on him for an Olympic medal, we would wait in vain. Better luck next time, but with so many young and hungry athletes out there, its going to be tough for him…..so many yrs of running but not an Olympic medal to show for it….sad

I was wondering what had happened to the Public Sector Transformation plan, which was an entire office wasn’t it? After 3 or 4 years, what has been achieved? As you say, it contradicts the recent actions of the administration. It is as if all the rules that apply elsewhere don’t apply to the Cabinet. I think #8 on that list is a serious problem that’s often overlooked but which simply reflects the incredible inefficiency and cumbersome bureaucracy of the government. “Joined up” government has a long long way to go! Thanks for this thoughtful post…

It seems to be a human tendency of those who govern to wish not to be governed themselves. It is imperative, therefore, that we have an educated populace who will demand that the governors serve the populace and not their selfish ends.

Thanks very much for pointing out these aspects of the trial, which I simply wasn’t aware of. Although I did feel that local media reports did not tell us much – now, not surprising. And I agree – most unfortunate that the Jamaican witness was discussed in that way. And the Bajan accent is pretty baffling to those who have probably never heard it before! (Why didn’t they speak into the mikes? Didn’t anyone remind them to do so?)
